Got up early and went down to the Falls of the Ohio State Park today. I’m getting to know that place pretty well now. The path, the rocks, the fallen trees all have a familiarity now that they didn’t before. What was different today though was that for the first time since I have been going there the main dam was closed so there was no water flowing.
This changes things a lot as far as fishing goes. The rapids where I am normally casting we’re nothing more than a few puddles. I brought my fly rod with me and was determined to get something on it so I wandered around casting in new spots that looked fishy.
I did manage to catch a few, a small bass, and a decent sized drum. The drum was the biggest thing I’ve had on the fly yet so that was pretty cool. I decided after that to take advantage of the closed dam and hike around all the area that is normally covered by flowing water.
