Have you ever put something off for a long time, and then when you finally did it you were like “why did I wait”? after years of wanting to try fly fishing, and putting it on the back burner I am now the proud new owner of a brand new temple fork outfitters- pro series II -9wt 9’0″ 4 pc. Fly rod and reel. Thanks very much to Bob at the white river fly shop inside the bass pro shops in Clarksville IN for explaining, and setting up my new rig.
Now I have to find a spot I can sneak out to so I can see what casting it is like.
First fly lesson learned is the butt and tippet are different ends of the leader, and not 2 different things altogether.
wish me luck!
Tight lines and Tailwinds!

UPDATED-2 hours later……

the closest body of water to my house is this pond at the wildwood country club. So that is where I got my very first fish on a fly. Not much sport with a 9wt rod but still exciting none the less.

Awesome! I’ve wanted to try fly fishing also but have been reluctate to do so because of few things I’m worried about. 1 is cost 2 is what to buy and 3 is learning the proper way to fly fish seams a little scary to get into. I’m glad I know someone who can show me what they’ve learned.

Just started fly fishing two years ago (after having fished all my life). I’m so addicted it’s not even funny. Just got back to KY from a week in the Bitteroot Valley in MT. What a fabulous experience that was! You’re gonna love catching on the fly!
Yeah I can’t wait to go again, I’m going to get a professional lesson to work on my technique.
Billy, Thank god you had the 9wt with you that day otherwise you would have had the fight of your life,
that sunny just may have pulled you right in the water.
I know right? I’ll have more to post when I go out tomorrow and really test it out
You have the same outfit I have, 9wt, 4 piece rod. Great weight to throw when you first start out. Good luck tomarrow.
Billy, Craig and I had a great week of catching all size stripers along the coast of Maine with our fly rods. Were planning a trip next summer to Belize to do some Bone, Permit and Tarpon fishing in the flats let us know if you are interested in going we would love to have you come along to.
