This morning I headed out to the Falls of the Ohio again, only this time I met up with some additional friends (bucketlist buddies). I think it may be from me spending so much time talking about fishing at work, or it could be that this blog thing is catching on, but it seems more and more people I know are getting into, or back into fishing. The walk to the rapids was uneventful, but the trip itself taught me what might be the other reason it is called the “falls” of the Ohio River.
My work buddies Joe, Doug, and Gary are who fished today
I think after this trip we are going to re-name him Dangerous Doug. Even though he didn’t catch anything this time around, He at least had fun slipping and sliding around the fast waters, That was until he lost his Gatorade, tackle box, cell phone and almost his car keys.
Gary D got himself a nice Lunch sized catfish and a handful of drums while we were out there. We were using jig heads and grub tails when we first got started, but couldn’t get anything to bite until we switched to night crawlers, but not just any night crawlers. They were Canadian Crawlers… you know, the good ones….
Joe C unfortunately got skunked for the day, but i know he had a good time and regardless of the relationship his line had with the rocks that he kept getting snagged on, I also know he will be back to try it again. Those snags sure can be unforgiving. Thanks for bringing the bait Joe!
I did okay with a couple of cats and a few drum, but my catch of the day, and the last fish i caught was this little Striper. These Striped Bass are by far the best pound for pound fighters I have run into recently. For a guy who is used to bigger East Coast and Florida Fish to fight with this is the next best thing.
Another cool part of today’s trip was these guys i ran into that were throwing a cast net and getting some beautiful live baits.
They didn’t mind me taking a video of it so i posted it on you tube and linked the video here:
this is a pic of the shad they were catching
Some lost gear, a waterlogged cell phone and a digital camera that was dropped and may not work anymore has me thinking a lot about a purchase that i have been wanting to make lately. I am due for a new digital camera and now they make them so they can be dropped, submerged, frozen and beat on. I will post more about my search for the best one at the best deal.
All in all still another great day on the water.
I hope to run into many more bucket list fishing buddies out there soon. Anytime someone wants to get together for a trip just say the word!

I stayed after every one had left to catch a couple more hoping to get another catfish; I wanted to have one more fish for dinner. The guy’s from the net video were fishing about 50 yards from me with one of the fresh bait fish they caught. The water is much deeper there with large deep pits perfect for big cats. They caught a huge catfish at least 30 to 40 pounds. They were still fishing when I left and the fish were biting good so I’m sure they had a great day.
